Day two

After some anxious moments over the script, Day Two ended on a good note as we finalized our podcast plan.

Chad -
Today was finalizing the script. Twice. I learned a few tips in the iPhoto class that were helpful, but for the most part, I knew most of what she was teaching. I'm excited for the iMovie panel later today. We also interviewed our curator and I'm a little worried about the sound being too low, but I have a few ideas how to fix it. I think our group is working really well...we work though problems together and are able to compromise and come to a conclusion together. :)
Great job everyone! I'm sad I only have 1 day left.

Today was script day. We spent quite a bit of time scripting. It's great to have that part done so that we can get on with the fun stuff.
I enjoyed the iphoto session. While I had some experience with iphoto, I picked up a few new tricks that will be very helpful.

Deb-
Isn't script writing difficult? I am glad that we have hammered out the plan. It was great getting some good quotes from Susan for putting together the podcast tomorrow. Chad has already set up the intro music and opening statement. Sheryl will voice the Little Skipper (our own Powesheik!) Could Pixar be waiting with a contract for her?! And Juli will be looking for an academy award in the short documentary category (and this time i'm going to win! - sorry for the intrusion! ;) ) --she was out interviewing museum visitors today. I look forward to seeing a great summary of Team Butterfly's work.
Back to script writing, I think this will be the most difficult part to teach students to do. They will be anxious to get going with the "fun" part but we will have to require a finished script before we let them loose on the "fun" part. The motivational carrot! (Hey, Juli, is that too teacher-ish?)

I attended the copyright session this afternoon. Copyright sure is complicated. There is so much that one can do with technology, but we have to be very vigilant about abiding by copyright law. I have a lot of questions still. I am definitely going to check out the websites that were recommended in the session.
I spent some time this evening searching around for royaltyfree, copyright permission granted music/sound files. It's hard to find.

I played around with garageband this evening as well. I did a "practice" run through my part of the script. It really is easy to use garageband. I'm interested in finding out if it is easy to transport garageband files between computers.
I'm sure tomorrow will be a busy day for all of us as we work on completing and edition the podcast. I'm looking forward to more learning tomorrow.

I was really excited tonight because I created a podcast from scratch to use in my classroom. I have skip counting songs that I teach the kids. Most are just little jingles that I made up. I sang the songs, recorded them and even figured out how to upload them using iweb. It's pretty cool stuff. I am really excited about using podcasting in my classroom this year.

Our team is really working great together. I think we are all learning a lot from each other, which is really great. I'm looking forward to seeing what our finished products look like.

WELCOME TO DAY TWO... er right, sorry about the enthusiasim! I just got off of work at Joann Fabrics and tonight i recieved a service award pin for excellent customer service! ::pat on the back:: Any ways, today was really crazy! We turned in our script and our specialist wasn't too keen on it, saying that it might have been too young. I thought it was a great idea, since the exhibit it's self is VERY child orientated - i mean look at me in that cocoon... i barely fit! O___o But we re-tooled the script a little, and the curator LOVED it, so then we went on to recording. Lunch was not too thrilling today. I would have been fine with the nachos and all if the lady in front of me in line hadn't mentioned that the food was provided by Sodexho... nothing against Sodexho, but they are the people who provide my school lunches (now you get it right !!^_~) . I think that by far the coolest/most frustrating thing of the day was the copyright keynote. I actually got physically sick during the presentation... and that hasn't happened since 9th grade American 20th Century History! I was just really shocked with the creative restrictions that are on media. As the camera man/host/editor/creative designer of a TV show I was shocked at how many things i'm going to have to change in order to stay legal. This also lends a little bit of stress to as Mrs. T put it, my block buster documentary. I was really hoping to just use what i usually use for music, and extra visual aids, but now i can't. I'm actually probably going to record my self in audacity tomorrow, and layer my saxophone pieces into the movie for music, since I play strictly classical saxophone. Other than that, life is good at this conference, my group is great! I'm really bummed that tomorrow is going to be our last day with Chad though. It's a shame he won't be there for the unveiling of my master piece of a movie !! ^____^ Speaking of which.... i better get my editing on!

We spent a lot of time working with the script today. It was a lot of work like they said it would be. We received some information from Susan when we interviewed her again. Chad and Sheryl are putting the final script together. It is sounding good guys:) I went to both the iPhoto and iMovie session today. I know very little to nothing about both this programs. Needless to say, I learned A LOT today! I spent time tonight practicing and working with both these programs. I looked up the standards that will match our podcast. I'm looking forward to seeing the final products. It has been fun learning these past 2 days with such a knowlegable friendly group!
